Let’s go visit a garden, dear
That is probably what Deirdre McL said to husband Kenneth one day last week. He obviously replied in the affirmative, because they were the first visitors to arrive for our Saturday Open Day. What’s so exceptional about that you may ask? Well, Deirdre and Kenneth don’t live 3.5 miles away, not even 35.5 miles away, but a whopping 355 miles away in Ayr on the west coast of Scotland!
Many, many years ago, when we first opened, the BBC featured us in their Open Gardens programme and Deirdre liked what she saw. She obviously continued to think about us and when the latest issue of SAGA magazine dropped through her door recently, she decided that regardless of the distance she was going to visit.
At first I thought they had arranged a week’s holiday to include visiting us, but no. They came on this epic 710 mile trip just to see our garden.
I think they found it a worthwhile effort, certainly they spent a lot of time exploring and taking in all the nuances of the garden and even put on our feedback form that they may visit again! There’s devotion to garden visiting for you!
Thanks for visiting, Deirdre and Kenneth, and I hope you get home safely – yes, they are still on the road as I write this!
