Teasels in the Willows

Our first workshop of 2025 was a roaring success, with ten intrepid willow weavers enjoying not only bright sunshine and very unseasonal temperatures, but also producing some excellent garden structures.

Led, as usual, by the talented Mick Petts our participants were first taken into the garden to cut their own willow, learning exactly what pieces were the best for the job, but also how to ensure that the plant produces the best new growth for future years.

After a short demonstration of the key techniques, the construction began. Each person choosing their preferred shape and size.

To pick out one from all the rest is impossible, but there’s one that demonstrates how a number of different techniques can produce a stunning addition to your garden.

Colin had come along with the clear intention of making a ‘vase’ for his teasels. And here it is. Trouble is he now has to make another one to sit on the other side of the garden path. Well, you know how to do it now, Colin!

That was the first of a number of wonderful workshops at Nant y Bedd this summer. For details on the others see https://nantybedd.com/2024/11/24/workshops-2025/

We look forward to welcoming you to one or more.
